Two-curry combination
Beef-tendon keema and shrimp bisque, often finished with a sunny-side-up egg, rice and bright pickles.
Kiyomizu-Gojo · Kyoto · 3F
A tiny third-floor counter where two deeply different curries meet on one plate.

Hidden above the street in Suehiro Building: a small counter, a single cook, and a lunch worth climbing for.
A recipe carried forward
La Curry grew from the signature curry once served at Sherry Bar KAO. Owner-chef Aya Murakami learned that beloved recipe, kept cooking, and made the daytime counter her own.
The appeal is simple: curry is finished in front of you, the room is small enough to feel personal, and each plate combines careful technique with an unfussy Kyoto lunch atmosphere.

Made at the counter
Public interviews describe the prawn bisque as a labor-intensive curry made by crushing and straining shrimp shells, while the beef-tendon keema is cooked until the meat turns tender and rich.

The person behind the plate
Recent international guests repeatedly describe warm, attentive service and watching their curry being cooked in front of them. That human scale is part of what makes the place memorable.
The shop is small, so waits can happen. But the experience is exactly the opposite of anonymous: a few seats, direct cooking, and a plate made in front of you.
Before you climb the stairs
This is exactly where a multilingual restaurant site can help: explain the things a first-time overseas guest may not know before arriving.
The restaurant is inside Suehiro Building and reached by stairs.
Current public listings say reservations are not accepted.
Service can end when the day’s curry sells out; arriving early is safer.
Current public listings indicate cash; confirm directly if needed.

Recent impressions
Warm, thoughtful service is mentioned again and again — especially by first-time international visitors.
Guest impression
The beef and shrimp pairing stands out because the two curries taste genuinely different, not just like two versions of the same sauce.
Guest impression
The tiny third-floor setting feels like discovering a local place rather than walking into a tourist restaurant.
